Too Easily Discouraged
62 years old and still trying to figure out who I want to be......and what I want to paint.
The main problem is....I have been too easily discouraged by several gallery owners
who gave me advise.
1) Gallery owner said that I'd have to paint in a restaurant background before anyone
would ever buy this painting. Actually ....I thought it was a bold painting and really liked
how I'd captured the models' expressions. To me it told a story...and the title is
Decisions Decisions.

2) So I painted restaurant backgrounds.....then I was told that no one buys paintings
when you can recognize the people in them. Yep, people from Cincinnati recognized Valerie Abati
who was a local television personality.

3) Then I was told that 90 percent of all gallery sales are either abstracts or impressionism..........and that humor
doesn't belong in serious art.

Oops! This painting definitely has humor in it - and that's all that anyone seems to notice. They
read the words, laugh, and then walk on by. No one seems to look at how realistically the face
and hands are painted. This painting is actually one of my favorites and definitely one that reflects
my personality.
Oh, Hell......what do gallery owners know anyway? I refuse to paint women from the back wearing
white hats and sitting in a garden! I know there are galleries out there who represent artists like me.....
guess I just have to keep looking for them.
