Studio Re-Organization

I always feel guilty if I don't spend 8 hours a day painting in my studio....but sometimes you just have to stop and do some cleaning and re-organizing. It had come to the point where my studio was becoming uncomfortably cluttered.

Recently I've started painting small 8x8" and 8x10"  still lifes. I've been laying them on a table to dry....raised up on lengths of 1x2's. It just started being too cluttered...and I needed to use the drawing table for it's intended purpose.

I relocated a cork board which was on this wall and built a hanging system out of 1x2" scrap wood and some L-angles. The paintings aren't wired yet, so they are hanging on the 5" horizontal strips of 1x2"s. They are very secure, easy to see, and are now drying in an area where they won't be disturbed, yet are easily accessible. The hardest part was attaching the hanging system to the rafters.....but by the time I'd gotten to the 4rth strip....I'd perfected the technique. And the best part? It didn't cost me anything but time...I already had all of the wood and hardware out in my garage.

Have you read those articles with pictures of artists and their perfectly designed and immaculate studios? Yeah, my doesn't look like that either.....
