The Reasoning behind Harley Cat

Harley Cat is my latest painting. It represents a complete change of direction for me......
after having the 4rth or 5th gallery tell me "NO" because they say that people don't buy
paintings that look like someone.....or at least in the Midwest they don't....one morning I
woke up and thought "I'll do paintings of cats in clothes."
Of course a quick internet search told me that it wasn't an original idea.......however,
several artists on Etsy have sold 2600+ prints of animals in clothes. One artist has
sold 6000+ prints! I would be thrilled if I could sell a fraction of that amount. And the idea
sounded like fun.....my normal paintings, but with cat faces instead of human.
I worked on two small 8x10" paintings....but they just weren't large enough for me to paint
in all the detail I wanted. So I ordered some 16x20" The Edge canvases from Jerry's Artarama
and they are the perfect size and canvas texture to paint on. It took me about 1.5 weeks to finish
a painting versus 4-6 weeks to do my normal 36x48" pieces. Painting was once again really fun
instead of a really long drawn out process. And these originals will sell for far less than my larger ones.
Will people buy these prints? I don't know....but I hope so. Will I still get juried into art shows?
I don't know......but I hope so. So here I go on a wing and a prayer......or should I say a paint brush
and a prayer?
