Originally I had planned to paint the backyard umbrella to look like palm leaves..

So....I did spend a day painting it that way.....but decided it overpowered the figure...so

the next day I painted over it....took a photo, but deleted it by mistake. Sorry.....

A teacher told me that orange is problematic...and that seems to be true, but

I don't think he meant it in the same way that I do. Had trouble mixing the perfect

orange....hopefully it will end up somewhere in the "sherbet ice cream" range....which is what

I want to use in the entire painting....soft colors.....well, at least what passes for soft in my eyes.

People look at my paintings and say, "You really like COLOR." Yeah, so, is that a bad thing?????

I paints 'em like I seez 'em.

Started a new painting titled Summer Stacation. This is probably the first time

I've toned a canvas green....it's supposed to make the red in the skin tones POP....

and it looks like it does. On the left you can see the reference photo - received a tablet

holder for my birthday and it works perfectly attached to my stand-up palette. Before

I was balancing the tablet on top of the turpentine container.....and it was starting to

get smeared with paint.

This is the first pass with paint and the legs are already looking contoured. Love this

stage of a painting....it always holds so much promise....soon to be dashed...but at

least there's hope in the beginning that it will be a Masterpiece!
