About
This blog chronicles the journey of my art from it’s creation to it’s introduction into the art world. I will share how I make art, how I market it, and a little about me in the process.
This is me considering whether or not I should paint in the wrinkles…..what wrinkles – right? Every morning I look in the mirror and wonder how I got to be so old. Inside I feel much younger than I did in my thirties. My life truly became an interesting adventure three years ago when I started Dawna Boehmer’s Studio, LLC. At the time my husband had been downsized from his corporate job and I said, “Don’t worry – I can make a living with my art.” Famous last words.
Being a full time working artist isn’t nearly as glamorous as most people think. I had envisioned nights on the town being theĀ SHINING STAR of the art world in New York City while wearing 4 inch heels and Prada. In fact, I spend most of my days alone in my studio wearing paint splattered clothing and no make-up. When I do venture out it’s to set-up a tent and hang my artwork at an outdoor art festival.
I am currently working on my I’m a Very Serious Artist series of twenty paintings in a single theme. Okay, my paintings aren’t all that serious – there’s always humor in them, but I am seriously working on them. When not doing shows I paint 8-10 hours a day usually 6 days a week. I’m only interested in painting Characters. People interacting with each other and showing their true feelings by their body language and the expressions on their faces.
Okay, from my lips to God’s ear……I am for ready success. I am ready for gallery representation, licensing opportunities, and commercial art jobs. I know I have to do all of the creative work myself, but is a little DIVINE INTERVENTION on the business side too much to ask for ?????
